What would you do? Rebarrel gone wrong.

I had a local guy rebarrel my Rem 700 that had a sporter contour. My words to him was "I want the lightest contour I can get and still be threaded 5/8 for my OTB suppressor."

When I picked up the rifle it had a thread adaptor on it, which I wasn't happy with, but figured I could use the adaptor from UK Suppressors. It turns out my new barrel is threaded 9/16 so I can't use an adaptor because it's only offered in 1/2. I talk to the 'smith about rethreading but he tells me the barrel would need to be cut back 2" in order to get enough shoulder for the 1/2 adaptor. I don't want to go that short with this barrel so I said no, that won't work. We have a discussion about the barrel not being what I want and him not willing to do anything because he said he ran it by me, which he didn't. At this point I'm OK with the 'smith not making it right, so here are my questions.

Do I sell the barrel without shooting it first, and buy a new barrel, or shoot it with my conventional suppressor and go from there? My current stock is bedded to match the new barrel, how difficult would it be for a new 'smith to rebed a barrel? I'm tired of f*cking with adaptors on suppressors, plus I bought the OG30 just for this build, otherwise I'd have boughten the OG6.5. By using my Nomad I'm adding 2" overall and about half a pound compared to using the OG30. Barrel is chambered in 280AI.

I'm headed out for a bear hunt in a couple of hours, so I'll reply to your responses when I return Monday.

Thin margin between the bore and threads can have a ton of bad results. Just the threading op can cause problems....then add in over torquing and impacts....bad deal.

If you know what the tenon needs to be, an adapter turned on your barrel is as awesome as it gets. Your tolerance stacking is N/A if it's trued to your bore.

I understand the frustration. If you've got a 5/8 adapter that wouldn't fit in a OG, just machine it down to fit.

Also, call bullshit on the 2" of barrel cut needed to rethread it. Threads should only be 0.6"ish to the current shoulder and there is zero reason he should need to cut beyond the current shoulder to put a smaller thread on it.

I wouldn't give up on the barrel unless you've got a buyer and a replacement lined up. Shouldn't be that hard to address any concerns you have.

Sounds like your smith gave you exactly what you asked for, a light contour with 5/8 threads. What's the problem?

Install your smiths adapter with Roksett and move on would be my recommendation.
The problem is I said no adaptor. So far I'm 0/2 with Rokset using the adaptor, so I'm real hesitant using an adaptor that I don't have a removal tool for. I've had to use the tool way too many times already.

I would Rokset the adapter. If you are dead set against it I would call Karl Feldcamp and tell him exactly what you have going on. I'd bet he can get you your threads without loosing 2" or another new barrel but talking to him would be better than a stranger's opinion(me) online.
