What to do on multi-day white-tail hunts

I hunt NE AL and NW GA. I hunt some land that is lightly pressured. I hunt some that is incredibly heavily pressured. I stand and still hunt on both. Stand hunting can be less invasive, but it's still invasive, especially if it's new land and you don't know exactly where you're going. It's also not the end all be all. Still hunting is tougher. I do both but love still hunting, especially in the rain. Both styles work.

I don’t know about deer in the Southeast. I’ve never hunted there, but I have to envision that all of the same basic rules of thumb and principles apply there as anywhere else. I can’t envision that whitetails in the Southeast respond to the factors mentioned by others here that much differently than whitetails in the Northeastern US, or even the Mountain West.

It sounds as the OP has a general idea of where he wants to go from looking at maps and has 9 days to hunt. If you’re seeing sign, there’s deer around. If you’re not seeing sign, change location a little. If you’re hunting intelligently, you’re just as likely to bump into a big buck while walking in an unknown area as you are to happen to set up a climber stand in just the right spot and have him come to you. I would advise the OP to do what suits his fancy given the situation. Neither strategy mentioned here is necessarily a bad move.

For a multiday hunt:
Study the maps, find the areas you'd like to hunt.
Still hunt the areas as a means to scout...hopefully in the rain.
When you've found a hot spot (whatever you define that as), stand hunt it.

I’ve never hunted Alabama but I’ve had a good amount of success on public elsewhere. My approach would vary heavily by time of year. That might be mentioned but I don’t see it.
Early season I’m looking for food sources and where water isn’t everywhere I’m keying in on water sources as well. It’s easy to tell if a water source is getting used heavily. I don’t even consider sitting all day.
Pre-rut Im hunting morning & evening but will take a few hours off mid day to scout. Really looking for scrape lines that are starting to fire up for intel.
Rut I’m often hunting thick nasty bedding areas if the access allows it without blowing everything out. That being said I’ve seen those bedding areas get pressured on public and the deer move out to the wide open prairie where they can see for forever. I will hunt all day if I’m confident in the area. If not I’m finding the area I do have confidence in.
Post rut / late season I’m starting to key back in on food sources that deer are actively using. If I don’t know where that source is I’m finding it mid day.
Don’t be afraid to scout mid day but if the settings feel right don’t shy away from sitting all day. Im not a fan of still hunting but if that’s your style have at it!
