What subsonic straight wall cartridge for whitetail? Not 45-70 or crossbow

Sounds like what I'm after, is there a name for this cartridge?

I have an an encore and enjoy it so it would be ok to get a new barrel for it. A friend has a 357 max barrel for encore and has used it successfully for whitetail

I have a couple .475 Linebaugh, which is a 45-70 case shortened to 1.4" Due to the taper of the 45-70 case the inside dimension at that point fits a .475 bullet.

I would use maker expanding copper subs 400 or 500g in the 45-70. The bullets are so long that a shorter case should have no real effect. Could probably just cut down brass and use in a regular 45-70 chamber. Note Hornady already does this a little for the ftx bullets. Brass is shorter so they can keep the 2.55 oal.

For encore I would look at the 360 buckhammer. Although due to twist you are limited to just over 200g bullets.

I just discovered Maker's has subsonic all copper ammo in 450 Bushmaster and 350 Legend.

425 gr 350gr, 250gr for 450 Bushmaster, and 220 gr for the 35 Legend.

I've got a 350 legend and a .357 mag that both may fit your needs. Thinking about going suppressed but haven't gotten there yet. The 357 mag is a deer killer with fast XTP bullets, no idea how well it would do suppressed with heavy bullets. 350 Legend is okay, the 357 mag impresses me more.

Nothing special about the short neck 45/70, or any of the short neck cartridges I have experimented with,, just simply trim the neck to 1.80 oal, the straight wall cartridges I played with had negligible taper no more than I was taking off, just seat a really long bullet out as far as you can.and still have enough in the case till it stays put,, without any major run out.
If I was building a dedicated 1.8 barrel I would make up a dummy round and send it to ptg and have a reamer ground,, then have mgm build a barrel to my specs,,,, or send mike bellm a 44 mag barrel and have the same thing done on 444 marlin brass.
Word of caution though ,,, wildcatting is probably more addictive than crack,,, once you have one,,, you have to have another!

Other than being 35 cal, 360 buckhammer is basically a 375 win case. Problem with the 35 cal is rifles are not fast enough twist for heavy subs. Only way to up energy is more weight, in 35 cal, the subs from maker are just over 200g, same as a regular bullet. Only advantage is they open up going slower.

45 cal you can go really heavy 500-600g. Even at slow twists they work ok.

good points. There are fast twist 375 barrels out there, just need to get it chambered.

I think the minimum-fuss way to do this would be 44 mag. Plenty of pistol bullets available designed to expand at lower speeds. Box ammo is cheap. Looks like CVA makes a threaded single shot.

I'm getting 1900 fps on first shot, 2000 2nd shot out of Ruger M77/357 w Lil Gun and 158 gr XTP. My powder volume is a 357 maximum load. CCI primers.

The XTP has a way of just dropping deer for me. I like the rifle out to 100 yards for deer and shoot 8-inch steel with it at 200 yards. It is a fun rifle. I also shoot .355/9mm bullets out of it too (165 gr FTX).

Have a lever gun built in 460 S&W. It will also shoot 454 Casull and use the 45 Colt for the sub-sonic.

I would recommend the 450 bushmaster with the Hornady Sub-X bullets
