What state for spring blk bear hunt.

Looking for suggestions on what state you guys would suggest for a backcountry bear hunt for my son and I? I have mules and a LQ horse trailer and all the gear needed. Looking at Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. Utah is an option as well as New Mexico if NM has a spring season.

with mules, I would say for Idaho, Frank church or Selway for bears. I typically hunt north idaho for bear but I just drive to glassing areas and do spot and stalk.

I would also suggest idaho...we have lots of bears here in MT, but it costs twice as much. I think you can even buy two tags in Idaho unless I'm mistaken. If I was going out of state I would probably target Idaho first.

Forgot to mention we would be archery hunting. Yes we have 4 mules we can pack or ride. Glossing for bears would be optimal i have some great optics that have been gathering dust on my last two Colorado hunts. Mostly do to the area we have been hunting.

In Idaho do you have to apply and draw tags or are they over the counter?

Over the counter, aside from a handful of units.

As a perk, if you go into the wilderness areas mentioned above you can also shoot wolves.

We are heading to Montana in April/May depending on how the weather is looking.
Idaho is a solid option as well.
