I have a Winchester model 70 (post 64) in .270 win. It was my first ever centerfire rifle, given to me by my father and what i shot my first several deer with. I moved away from it after picking up a tikka and a few others. It originally had a old cheap leupold rifleman 3-9x40 i really enjoyed using, but i robbed it for another rifle and left it with just the irons. I’d like to get another scope for it. The rifle isn’t going to be hunted hard, so the “durability” isn’t a deal breaker, travels in a hard case, short walks to get into a stand. Hunting anywhere from 50-250 yards. Looked at the swfa but not sure if I’d be able to handle the fixed mag in some of the woods stands.

Looking to spend 500 or less
9-12 max mag
Would like a bigger objective

Edit, capped turrets aren’t really a must come to think of it

I think a trijicon huron could fit the bill, but I have never actually owned one. A lot of guys here seam to speak fondly of them.

OP said he doesn't want fixed power and I don't think he is going to get a variable power swfa for less than $500, even if used.

A secondhand SWFA 3-9x can be had for $500, if you watch the classifieds like a hawk.

I used the 10x on my .25-06 most of the past season. For whitetail hunting in woods and pastures, it worked really well from 80-200 yards.

From the sound of things, I think you a Trijicon might work better for you.
