While I love higher power scopes expect ally for longer ranges, I feel sacrificing field of veiw to get it sucks. I missed an opportunity on a great buck because it was so close when I spotted it that time, finding the deer in the scope, then making an ethical shot, just wasn't doable. That was the best window I had on that deer and If I'd had a scope with a wider FOV, things may have been different. I know this is the LR forum, but if the animal or target presents itself at close range and you have a scope with a min power of 6 or 8, you might end up the same way I did. The deer I had been hunting that season ended up being shot by another hunter.
A 16x seems to be the most power I use when target shooting. When hunting (anything but varmint), usually less. My next scope will be a 2.5-17x to try and get both good magnification and wide FOV. It should be 41-6ft FOV, and not be stuck with 14-5ft that a 6-20x gives you. Just a thought when buying a scope.
