What powder does Hornady use in Precision Hunter 143 ELDX 6.5CM?

What powder does Hornady use in the black box Precision Hunter 143 ELDX for a 6.5 CM?
Unfortunately, that isn't publicly available. Buy a couple of different powders (like H4350) and work up a load. Or, buy a case or two of that ammo and call it good.

I would try and match the velocity you recorded and measure the cbto of the cartridges you used. Manufacturers may use a canister powder or they might have their own blend that is not available to us. Some one might be able to tell you what powders will match your velocity. I've only loaded the 6.5 for other people and I used h4350. Good luck.

You can certainly surpass Hornadys grouping with an even a decent hand load. 6.5 CM flat out shoots good unless you’re exceptionally terrible at reloading.

As stated above start with H4350. I use H4350 in mine and average 2735 FPS, 143 Eldx, and .45-.48” 3 shot groups with Peterson brass and 2775 with the same load and group size with starline brass. I have a factory ridgeline 6.5 and it’s just a hunting and occasional practice gun so I don’t bother with groups bigger than 3 shot for reasons of the carbon cracking with high heat on those.

I worked up to Hornady’s max load and length with H4350 and CCI 200s. 2720 out of a 22 inch barrel with great groups.

Hornady used to print the load on the box for some ammo lines, but I believe it's been several years (maybe 10) since they did that. Can't remember if the 143 eldx was one they did it for. H4350 has been good for me and I agree is a good start. Staball 6.5 has also been good for me, and given faster velocities than H4350.

H4350 and Varget I have a few lbs of. I’ll give them a shot this weekend. Also bought a box of the 140 ELDM match and it shoots the same as the 147 & 143. I was surprised I didn’t see a substantial increase in velocity.

It changes regularly, some proprietary blend

Stuff 41.5 grains of H4350 behind that 143, stick a primer in it, and go lay down some groups. Thats the load Hornady used to print on their factory 140 AMAX ammo back in the day, and it works.

Pull a bullet, weigh the charge. Is it ball or extruded powder? Compare to their published load data.

Their chrono data is probably based on 24" barrel.

The powder could vary lot to lot. But might be able to narrow it down to a few options based on these few observations and replicate something similar to their load.

Looks like you have a tikka... load a pressure ladder of 41-42.5 gr of H4350 at 0.050" off the lands, drop to 0.5gr below pressure signs, and go shoot lots of bugholes. I've tried 5+ powders amd h4350 is the easy button. 42.0 gr of h4350 in Lapua brass gets me 2640 fps out of my 19" Tikka with stellar accuracy for group after group and 300 rounds between cleanings. At least 100 fps faster than the factory load ( have to check notes...).

I’ve had good luck with h4350 also. I have a load for imr 4831 that’s around 2579 fps average.
