What phone do you recommend for digiscoping?

Hello Roksliders:

I need help finding the right phone for digiscoping, I’m using a Vortex Razor 27-60x85 spotting scope paired with magview. I’ve tried the newer iPhone 16, but the multiple cameras make it difficult to align properly and use it effectively. The image quality is decent, but fine details are hard to make out, even at relatively close distances. I'm looking for an Android phone with a single high-resolution lens that works well for digiscoping.

Are you really gonna buy a new phone just for digiscoping?

All modern phones with great cameras have multiple lenses.

I use an iPhone 16 with the On Glass digiscope and have no issues with it.

Haha, I wish I had that kind of money, I’m definitely not buying a new phone just for digiscoping. I’m actually due for a "free" upgrade, so I figured I’d try to get something that could double for that use. I tested the iPhone 16, but I couldn’t figure out how to properly focus it. The multiple lenses make it tricky, and the image quality doesn’t come close to what I see just looking through the scope.

Do you mind sharing your steps to focus the image?

Most phones have multiple lens you need an app to lock the camera from switching lens when you focus or zoom the camera

I have two lenses on my IPhone 16. One kicks on <1x zoom, the other is for all other zoom ranges.

The OG has a “line-up tool” that’s just a piece of paper with holes in it. But it makes it easy to line up the first time you use it.

Then you just use it. Focus your spotter and tap your phone screen to get it to autofocus. Haven’t had an issue with it
