What, no axe collection thread?

Here’s mine.
- Double bit is Gränsfors Bruk
- Upper right hatchet is Wetterlings ??? 16” with hardened/smooth poll.
- Axe is a Gränsfors Bruk Scandinavian Forest Axe
- Middle left is an H&B Forge medium camp hawk
- KA-BAR in the moto travel sheath
- Right of that is a hatchet that my cousin hand forged for me, it’s a work of art.
- Bottom left is a Gränsfors Bruk splitting hatchet
- Bottom right is a Gränsfors Bruk splitting maul
A cheapish Cold Steel lives in the toolbox of my pickup,
I look after it.

I also make K-bars also and have quite a few CC saws.

Yea I know it’s not as trendy as I-phone XX whatever that’s interesting to the new generation.
But I got it covered when the power goes out. Nice collection!

Oh man, you aren’t messing around. I have an ok crosscut saw, nothing classic, and definitely not able to do the work of your saws. I have (IIRC) a Bahco ProfCut Timber, it’s mainly for trails. I’d love to get one of the real deal saws and learn to look after it. We heated with wood for a big chunk of our time in AK, then again in Cody. Now we live in the desert, nearest wood is about 45 minutes away. I just keep about 1/2 cord on hand for the ecozoom (rocket stove) and the little Solo Stove.

I have a few. Even have a Gransfors but never thought of it as a collection. They got more use when I burned wood but now I just use them for trail clearing and making the occasional stake.

Yeah, axe collection is a thing just like collecting knives. People know all the brands, specs, handles, axe head shapes but most never split 10 cords worth in their lives. That's fine. As pastimes go, it beats alcoholism.

I have one quality axe in every rig including atv, travel trailer and jet boat....but never taken the time to photograph them. If I need to move some wood.....I'll grab the xp395.

Never looked at mine as a collection either, as I did Wilderness trails for years and most got used at one time.
Then one day I noticed I had a pile of them.
I do cut and burn 5+ cords ,still cut trails so hopefully that disqualifies me from the hipster tag.

I have the Gränsfors splitting hatchet that I use in my tipi or wall tent when truck camping. Great for splitting small pieces of wood for kindling, etc. I have the wildlife (?) hatchet also.

We use the splitting hatchet for the same thing.

I carry regularly a double bladed axe and a bush axe, (I wouldn't know where to start with the names of them.) They are old, handles have been replaced a bunch. I wouldn't know where to start clearing trails without them. People around the camp know me for those two tools. They are always with me, I use a smith's easy to sharpen sharpener, quick touch ups in the field and an old norton dual asian stone to keep them sharp.

I love a good axe, but a chain saw and/or pole saw have their places too.

I have a swack of axes as well. Many of them are Hultafors premium axes. A few old Montreal, and Connecticut patterns as well as more modern ( fiskars) axes, hatchetd, splitting axes, polaskis, and tomahawks. I also have 3 cross cut saws. 2 2man and one 4' single man. We burn wood as our primary heat source, and put up at least 5-6 cord/ year. While I love the axes my arthritic hands much prefer running the chainsaws and 28ton hydrolic splitter these days... my favorite trail axe is a 1Lb hultafors premium bit i mounted on a super thin 24" haft.. light and agile it's a cross between a hatchet and felling axe.. similar to a small Forrest axe but a bit longer so it works well with a double handed swing.
We have built many structures on our acreage with wood harvested out of our forest. I have hewn square beams with a axe multiple times but generally use a chainsaw and Alaskan mill these days..

Setting and sharpening teeth/ rakers on the crosscut saws is a process i learned a few years back. Very fun being able to upkeep those old saws..

My full size axes are usually cheap fiskars these days, but i do love a good quality camp axe or tomahawk.. i have a winkler and 2 from half faced blades
