What new gear would you like to see?

Kifaru seems top notch in the weight and performance category. They offer a wide variety of packs to fit the various needs of most people. Like a few others, I was actually going to call in the near future about seeing if I could get a 500D Kifaru E&E without the PALS Webbing.

Eberlestock makes a great mid-grade pack. They could use a mesh that chafes less and also could use hip-belt stabilizers. A wider hip-belt could be better for heavy loads, but they may have corrected that with the V69 and V90's hip-belts (which appear to be compatible with the Blue Widow). The Just One and Dragonfly seem pointless with the Blue Widow and Skycranes ability to mount the scabbard along the length of the frame.

Mystery Ranch offers some great packs. The NICE Frame is an amazing concept, but people do not have perfectly flat backs. The Yoke is amazing and keeps the weight off of the top of the shoulders regardless of torso length (even if frame sits below shoulder height) and contours around the upper back and shoulders making up for the straight frame in the upper section. However, the bottom of the frame needs curvature. They should offer a flat back and normal back version, which should only require adding curvature to the bottom of the frame. Adding a curve to the bottom would not interfere with any of their bag designs.

"Mystery Ranch will not compete with Kifaru until they add a natural curve to the bottom of the NICE Frame." The extra weight is mostly because of increased organization, which is perfectly acceptable for those who like the additional pockets. Adding a bunch of pockets to a Kifaru Duplex Pack can easily put the pack in the same weight category as a Mystery Ranch. It just comes down to how you like your pack setup.

I always thought, (and I told Glen Eberlie this) that if they made a Blue widow pack on the Destroyer suspension (25 inch stays, better belt padding etc...) they would have a real winner of a pack. Because it seems guys like that split wing design but the main complaint on the blue widow from guys that use it for awhile is the fact there is no suspension lift from load lifters. He stopped emailing me after I mentioned that though. Haha!!

Good call on the better frame system. The biggest complaint I had on the Battleship pack I owned was the belt shoulder pad material. That rough material they put on the belt rubbed my hips completely raw and bloody with a full boned out load cinched down in it. I've used a ton of packs in my day with various weight but that's the first time the material was so rough it rubbed my skin off.

I know what you mean! I remember putting the pack on with out a shirt on (yes that is how I role sometimes) and I just about had my nipples rubbed off!! That material is a bit course to put it nicely. That is really the only pack I have used a lot that I would recommend beside the Kifaru packs. But if I owned one I would upgrade to Kifaru aluminum stays.

Did you suggest sending a set of pasties for those of us who want to roll topless sometimes?? lol

Back to gear however, why do those companies that sell the real packable trekking poles, not have snow baskets on them? I am talking about the black diamond Zpoles, Easton al 5 poles, Leki micro stick etc... these type of poles could easily have snow baskets as an option. I understand that when you fold them up they won't fold flat, which could easily be fixed by having snow baskets with a slot cut out in the basket that goes over and snaps on the pole when folded.

My wife had waxed me top to bottom and it grows back so fast it doesn't matter. Just imagine a bald Sasquatch:) ok I'm done now. Sorry for the derail.

Also throw a vertical zipper down the middle of the spike camp to make it kind of like a MR tri zip, and eliminate the bottom opening. That would make it nice to access internal stuff without dealing with the small opening of the tapered pack.

^ this may be my dream daypack. Maybe someday ill have someone sew me on a zipper right up the middle of my spike camp
