What length should I chop this barrel to?

What length to chop my 6.5 PRC?

Yes so if I reloaded, I could easily get 2850-2900 out of a 20” barrel. But I don’t, so I’m conservatively saying 2700. I’m sure there are better choices for short barreled cartridges, but this is what I have an am running with.
You missed the whole point, but good luck, anyway. Report back what velocities you get after you chop the barrel.

My 18” 6.5-06 gets 2750 with 140s. I could probably lean on it a little more and get it to 2800. 2” of barrel would add another 50 fps. Then the prc case has a little more capacity so I could see it going a little faster still.

The main thing for me with this rifle is I hated carrying it around when it had a 28” barrel. I also hated carrying it around with a 24” barrel and a suppressor. I like it much better with an 18” barrel and og65 on it but I have contemplated going on down to 16”. I suggest cutting it down to whatever length makes you like using it the best and don’t worry about it. A 20” prc will still be faster than a 20” creedmoor.

That was the thought when I purchased it. Get 24" creedmoor performance from a smaller package.

UM getting 3030 from 26” 6.5 PRC with 153. At 18” with suppressor would be around 2850.

I was just looking at those loads this morning. Not any more expensive than factory-loaded Bergers. I might have to try some of their loadings when I get it back.

I shoot a Blaser r8 which is 3-4” shorter than standard bolt action. Why I went with 20”. If I was running standard bolt action I would go 18”.

2850 out of 18” with 153tmk would be bad medicine. I haven’t run the numbers but my guess is you would be over 1800 to 800 yards.

Due to the contour, he was able to get it to 19.75”. Shaved about 7oz off the weight, which gives me the weight of the suppressor for free. Next step will be to chrono some rounds and get my dope but that will have to wait for a couple of weeks. The ATF inspector came to check my serial numbers while I was getting a pic.
