I'm in a otc area. Go out, shoot a bag of meat an call it done.

But chasing quail an grouse is different. And for some reason, I really like leaving feathers on the snow...
Same. 6 otc rifle tags.

But one quail over perfect dog work is a bigger trophy to me than any deer to ever walk.

Not that much on deer hunting. I am having trouble with western state prices. The cost just to apply is a big screw you.

I'll spend money on guns, but begging to hunt is hard for me.

Glad to hear it. We have enough out of staters.
I don't like outsiders either.

But I come from a hunting culture. I couldn't imagine living like you do.

Hunting is such a big part of culture and family here. You probably don't understand. They close school down for opening day.

I'd like to go out and hunt out west. But I couldn't live like you. I wouldnt want to raise my family like that.

But you go beg the government.

I’m going to show my wife this thread. Some of you guys spend a shart load of money on hunting.
God, I was totally surprised at how little most guys are spending…

I refuse to participate and figure out the %. It would probably make me sick.

Two duck blind leases and a goose field lease plus 21 applications and 3 out of state tags this year. Fuel and shotgun shells add up quick

Depends on the year and what I need… sorry I mean what I want. I’ll go over what I plan to buy end of hunting season and see if I can afford it the following year. There’s always around $500 in out of state application fees and tags, that may go up another $500 more if i draw out of my home state with travel expenses. This year has been abnormally expensive so far after buying swaro, new truck and updating my sleeping system. I’m self employed and run my own business so hunting budget all depends on how my year has been.

I have never really tracked it. I would guess I spend about $5k/yr on hunting related stuff. Some years maybe a little more if I have a big trip planned.

10-20 k depending on the year. Some years only 5-10k. That’s counting food and fuel expenses in there as well.

Wife and I both hunt and our kid is hunting now and building points for her in various states as well.

It costs us $3000 a year just to pay our lease, sew our food plot fields, and fill our deer feeders full for the year.

2-3% for me. But I don’t have a budget for it. Just spend what I need to do the hunts I want.

I stopped lease hunting when it went over $3k/yr or $250/month.

Basically, spend what you can afford. Just like you would bowling or golfing or whatever. My bil and sil were whining at me about my spending $3k/yr. Asked bil how much a round of golf was and he says $60. Ask him how often he goes, 1-2x a week. $1.5 x 60 x 50 = $4,500. And he wasn’t putting up any meat to offset the grocery bill. Kinda shut them up.

Im getting out of the hunting game due to costs and bs associated w tags and hunts. Fishing more. Still on a quota hunt hunt rotation for some close hunts. I typicall get to hunt a weekend a year if i draw a 3-5 day quota hunt. Would you still deer hunt if all you could hope for is a 3-day weekend? That’s where i’m at.

I should note that hunting and fishing is all I do.

I don't go on fancy vacations, I don't golf, I don't go out to the bar, I don't gamble, I don't drive fancy cars, I don't have a fancy camper, I don't have a fancy side by side, ect ect....

I fish and I hunt.

So, if that gives me 365 days of excitement for what I pay 5-20K a year then it is well worth the cost.
