What is your every day carry knife and why? Does nostalgia supersede function?

New knife day for me. As I patiently wait for the mail man to come with my Tyto I can’t help but think about what my current one means to me. My Benchmade Mini Griptilian has been around the world clinging to my pant pocket. It was there the day my son was born and the day I jumped on a plan to Afghanistan. It has been on every hunt with my bird dog and my sons first time shooting his .410. Man, If this knife could talk. It’s amazing the value we assign things, and I mean emotional value, not monetary. Its value is that on an ordinary Saturday morning hiking with my dog I felt it in my pocket and pulled it and all of those memories flooded into my mind like they were yesterday. Time travel isn’t real but sometime an inanimate object can be a key to those memories. I won’t replace this knife, it can’t be replaced. But I can add new keys and new memories.

I've carried a Swiss Army "Officer Suisse" model everywhere for decades. It was an impromptu gift from a long time hunting partner during an elk hunt and has been with me ever since. It looks to be discontinued (?) and the Spartan looks to be the closest I see. In this case I'd say the function of this knife is right there with the nostalgia, it's been a very versatile and useful knife. I also carry a Benchmade Bailout daily.

Victornox Tinker. I've carried one pretty much daily since I was 11 or 12. More function than nostalgia for me. It's small enough that it's easy to carry and has a lot of practical tools I use a lot.

556 Mini Grip for me, since 2009. I always just liked the blade shape & Axis lock, but couldn't have one in the UK. It was one of the first things I ever bought when I moved stateside & it hadn't left my pocket since then.
I also just found out yesterday, that they have a lifetime warranty. I broke the pocket clip, called to buy another & was pleasantly informed that it was free of charge! I had literally no idea!

Sog slimjim for me, super thin and fast action. Don’t even know it’s in your pocket.

Edit: missed the nostalgia part. This knife has been carried for 6 years now. Nothing too special. I did debone an elk with the thing cause I refused to post hole down from 10,000 feet with a third of a buddy’s elk bone in. The number of cardboard boxes this thing has under its belt can’t be beat.

My every day knife is a Case with a pearl handle. When I go hunting for animals other than birds, I have another knife or two on me, but I've field dressed multiple deer with it when I've forgotten my other knives in the past.

Right now it's a $20 Schrade I got from Sierra.

I don't carry anything more then a $40 knife as an EDC. They get lost, or I break them using them as a pry bar. So mainly CRKT, Kershaw, Gerber.

The Schrade I'm carrying is my favorite that I've had in a while other than that the CRKT M16 is a fantastic everyday knife at only $20.

Spyderco delica, good knife but not so expensive that it will hurt too much if I lose it.

Carrying a Kershaw Chive, I lose them or get them confiscated at the airport too often to carry anything of sentimental value!

I do have the knife I dressed my first deer with still. Old Timer

I have carried the same Spider Co knife for 12+ years. I love it. It is slim and has a strong clip. The thumb hole for opening is just the right size and the knife is just the right size to carry and not feel flimsy and small in the hand when using.

I use it for everything you’re not supposed to use a knife for and it has held up well. I only sharpen it once or twice a year. Holds an edge very well…. Which reminds me…

I keep getting knives as gifts, but find myself going back to my box for this knife.
