Interesting how there is no love for the .40 or even the .45 stuff.

This is where state to state legality really limits .40 and to a lesser extent .45 cal stuff. Colorado’s 50 cal minimum for elk definitely is a deterrent.

.40 cal is cool but it only has niche industry support whereas .45 seems to be more developed.

Agreed. Too few bullet options for .40. Sized bullets only - no sabot options for .40. The .45s are fantastic - I have 4 or 5.

If performance matters - have a custom built or build one yourself. A remage(barrel nut) build is a straight forward process with a remington 700 or savage short action. Parts and prefit barrels are readily available from Arrowhead or Hankins. With smokeless powder or blackhorn 209 performance will far exceed that of your average frontstuffer.

I just ordered a Woodman Arms Patriot. I wanted something that I could run smokeless in as I hate cleaning.

That's exactly what/why I did. I have a .45 cal Woodman Arms Patriot that I shoot 55gr of N120 and a 195 Barnes Expander Bullet. It's honestly the nicest gun I own, its beautiful.

I just ordered a patriot myself. I got the northwoods whitetail edition with the 20” barrel. They say with n110 and a 225gn bullet you should get 2400fps out of it. They also submerged one in a tub of water for 15min and pulled it out and it fired just fine.
