I am currently in the market for a new sleeping bag for under $500. Not sure if I want a 0 or 15 degree bag as the weather is very unpredictable here in the Wyoming high country. I'm about 6'3 so i will need a longer bag. I also sleep on the colder side. Please leave your thoughts on bags for me to take a look at. Thanks!

Define best. Lightest for backpacking? Down or synthetic? Maybe a quilt will do, depends on how, where and when you're using it. Nobody can answer definitively without more info from you.

Western Mountaineering..for sure.

i love the zipper. you have to try to get it caught up in the fabric. i'm one of the few guys here that hated my slick-bag. i wont buy another one, no matter how they modified it. the first gen i had was not good for me. it was a bummer that i bought mine and the new version came out right afterwards..i was not going down that rabbit hole.

i got a WM Alpinlite and it has been GREAT. i need to buy another one..if i had seen that used BADGER i would have jumped on it. my wife tried my bag on a women's nurse retreat, and i am surprised i got it back. it is HUGE on her, but she loves the thing.

and no experience with QUILTS. but every single sleeping bag draws out the guys that parrots the love of quilts..even if you didnt ask about quilts. :)

I am really impressed with this bag. Sleeping bags are expensive and I was skeptical with the price of this one but upon arrival, it's really well made. You can see it's a huge sleeping bag. My favorite part is that it fits nicely in my pack. I just wish it came in length sizes (tall/reg/short).

For the western mountaineering fans, how do you compare the micro fiber bags to the gore windstopper versions? Are they windstopper bags with the extra coin?
