That’s a cool idea, although isn’t it easier to simply buy a stock blank and have it inletted for your gun? Still, it gives them a little more contact with clients, and many people like something new. I can see it as a way to get people on the fence to commit to something they wouldn’t do otherwise. Inletting individual one off rifles may drive up costs, but giving the awkward cousin, or the super old guy who can’t afford to retire, a small batch of requests and letting him use a machine off in the corner might make sense.

I would assume that they are using this as a way to fund the mold, which seems to be the expensive part of the process. I would then assume that once they have the mold, you would be able to buy them further down the road but I would guess extremely long lead times. That is my assumptions. Take them for what you paid for them.

Once they have the mold it would be silly not to continue making them. The mold is the expensive part and it is not making money if it is not making stocks. They might not keep a thousand on the shelf at any given time but I'm sure it would become a regular product in their lineup.
