What is a good entry level bow that wont break the bank?

To echo what others have said... buying a used flagship model thats a 1-3 years old will be the best bang for your buck and likely net you a nicer set up than going with a newer mid to low end bow.

I recently started shooting again after a years-long hiatus, using my 7 year-old Bowtech Reign. I really wanted to buy myself a new bow, but after shooting the new ones I found that they were approximately 0% faster, smoother, lighter, etc. than what I have. So I vote for buy a top end older bow, put a nice string on it, and have fun.

My son has a Hoyt Torrex XT that is pretty dang nice. Fully adjustable to fit most peoples draw length.

I was in the same spot you were in last year. I ended up buying a Bowtech Reign off a member here. I love it! It saved me a ton of money and she shoots amazing. I would go that route or something like that.

A lot of guys will say “the bow that best fits you”… Practice enough with any bow and you can kill. Buy any bow and don’t practice, you’ll only wound.

There’s two ways to look at it.
Go “cheaper”
1. Just in case your interest falls off your not out a ton of money.
2. You can upgrade the components overtime.

Or you can go the all out route and spend 2-4K for the top of the line everything.

I usually steer newer people towards the first one because you don’t really know what you want yet. Single pin rolling sight, rolling multi-pin sight or fixed pins. limb vs cable driven rest etc.

There are more animals killed with the “cabelas or bass pro” special every year than the flagship bows I’d guarantee it. Having good form will be the key regardless of the equipment of course.

Im surprised at all the people recommending a used bow. (Easy for people with archery experience to say). Assuming you are new to archery I would not recommend purchasing something used and trying to tinker with it and tune it and all that without any experience.

My recommendation is to go to a reputable bow shop and purchase a new bow that fits your budget and have it sized and properly set up for you. They will cut you properly sized arrows and SHOULD give you a lesson or two on how to shoot. The benefit is you will have confidence that you are starting out with equipment that will function safely and fits you properly. While you may get more bang for the buck purchasing a lightly used high end bow I just dont think that is the right path for a newbie (assuming you are)/

The only problem with a used bow is that there is no warranty. You could buy last years model on here for a better deal sure, but If the cam gets bent or limb starts to splinter, you’ll be footing the bill.

Unless your pro shop works with you of course to find a “work around”. Seem it done a bunch and makes for a happy customer

If you're saving a ton of money than it should still work out in the end. My shop discounts leftover models every year after season from 20-50% off. That tells you just how much of a markup is on new bows.
