Hello, I am new to Rokslide (lurker for a while). After listening to a lot of podcasts about match bullets for hunting, what’re people’s go to ammunition/projectiles for hunting? What do people wish manufacturers offered in “off the self” factory ammunition for hunting/match ammunition? I hear a lot of talk about TMK, ELD-M, and Bergers, what’re people’s experiences with these? I plan on using 77 TMKs in 223 Rem and 223 PRS Moses, and 108 ELD-Ms in a 6mm Creedmoor. @Formidilosus you have been a big influence in the changing of my thought process, what do you wish you get from a factory “off the shelf” ammunition for different cartridges?

I wish they offered a recycling program for brass where you could turn in your once fired brass for a discount toward your next box.

Storable bulk packaging would be cool too.
Cool idea. How would you do this? It takes a lot of time to clean and prep brass which would cost money.

Consistency. I have reloaded almost exclusively for 25 years or so. But, the first 30-06 I bought, about 13 years ago, I was in a hurry to go hunting, so I bought 3 boxes of 165 factory Accubond Noslers. Now... I have Nosler brass from 3 diff boxes of 30-06. Brass weight ranges from 170 ish grains (can fit more powder in those than Quick load thinks a 30-06 AI does), to north of 200 grains/near military brass (reduce all charges by 2 grains or so). Of the 3 boxes, one was decently accurate, one was meh, and one could barely hit the broad side of a barn.

Definitely did not win me back to factory ammo, so I went back to reloading.

In more recent times, I have picked up a few boxes of Norma Whitetail in several cartridges ($12.95 a box blowout sale at LGS - bought for cheap Norma brass if nothing else). I don't hate it, and the brass is good, but my handloads are more consistent, so would not pay regular price for it.

I been pretty happy with it for last 35 years. More so the last 10 as I find it more consistent in accuracy.
It was ok prior. I only had one bad box all these years. A box of Hornady whitetail in 7mm08 had some rounds with bad primers. None of the game I killed complained either.

I buy enough I don't stress the availability cycles. I am not really a shooter. I hunt whitetail with three different rifles I might run thru a box of each every few years. I figure I use about 30 percent or better of my ammo checking zero before hunts.

I find my ammo is about the least expense I got when it comes to hunting so I don't find the cost as a barrier for me.

Using Factory ammo hasn't ever caused me any stress over my many years of hunting.

Lot to lot consistency with point of impact and velocity. Put the load details on every box. Show the test group with at least 1x 30 round group extreme spread for every lot#.

Its funny cause most this wishlist is data that they already have. Its mind boggling that companies wouldn't want to do this. I feel like educating the consumer the advantages of this wouldn't be that hard.

Indeed.

But, they don’t want to do it because consumers don’t demand it, they wouldn’t be happy with how much POI and MV changes between lots, nor would they understand what a 30 round group should look like.
