What do you think this mule deer scores? (trail cam)

Never actually scored a buck before, so I have no idea but just curious. Maybe high 160s/low 170s?

I think your about right in your scoring, I don't seeing him going above 170 because he's kind of spindly. He's a nice buck in many places and thanks for posting.

He has really good fronts, tall backs but not deep forks. He is narrow but that makes little difference. Mass always looks poor on night pics and is made worse by how long/tall he is. Look at the bases, mass is solid, not a strong suit but not a weakness. I would be blown away if he was under 170”. I’d say 174-181”. We took 161” and 166” 4x4s this year and this buck is much bigger in terms of fronts and G2s.

Hi!

i’ll be going on my first mule deer hunt in 2023 in the Alberta rocky mountains foothills.
My guide told me we will be hunting for a 150" or better buck.

Having killed over 50 whitetails, i have a good idea what a 150 look like, is it about tje same for mulies?

It's a 150 class buck and pales to many of the confirmed bucks in the referenced thread.

He is very pretty and his height will attract a lot of admiration from folks when they look at him on your wall.

You're in the right range I think. Forks make/break scores and he's deep. Not super wide but he makes up for it with those Forks, I'd say mid 160s to be safe

Trail cam pics IMO make a buck look smaller. I’d say 165 for the top buck, 175 for the other one. Top buck has good tine length everywhere.

Also I suck at judging and almost passed a 190” so my opinion means nothing

I would think right around 180 gross

That buck is over 180 gross for sure

Kill him and let us know. He is a trophy from those pictures. Not too many real world hunters are passing that buck opening day. He is a respectable deer and has the start of a roman nose.

OP : 160ish. His main beams are short . His tall backs makes him nice so go ahead and shoot! I don't think 2nd buck gets to 180 but a lot of you seem to think so... go ahead and shoot and report back to us. Both pretty nice bucks and I think scoring them would show that alot of people think a buck isn't big til he gets to a score of 180 ... There are plenty of bucks that can tickle your trigger finger under 180, imo.
