This is exactly what I do and did it last night after I sent my arrow into an elk. As the sun goes down I've found everything starts to look different very quickly. Oops I forgot to hit reply with quote. I was referring to 5milesback suggestion to flag where you shot from and then immediately flag where you shot the animal.

I include a couple tourniquets in my first aid kit that is always with me. Actually one in my first aid kit and I keep one quickly accessible in an external pack pocket.
