I went to the range on this cold rainy afternoon, but I left half the things I wanted to use. No Garmin, no backpack, no binocular carrier, no gloves, no coat. That sort of disrupted my plans, but I decided to go ahead and shoot what I had. I couldn’t get into the range for most of the past month due to heavy snow.
I started off shooting 50 shots offhand with my CZ 457 at a 6” plate 50 yards away. I originally had a black dot for a fine aiming point, but it fell off so I said to hell with it. I was also supposed to trace a line around the center of the plate, but I forgot my marker. I shot very fast.
After shooting the first 50 shots, I started testing factory ammo in my Sauer 100 6.5 CM. After the first five shots from the Sauer, I reloaded my .22 magazines, then shot the second 50 after the next five 6.5 CM shots. So, the target above had 100 shots taken at it offhand.
The Sellier & Bellot 156-grain SP seems the most promising option so far. I was feeling really good after the first six, but of course that could not last.
The 156-grain load outshot the 131-grain load (not even worth posting that one up). Still more testing required.
I hope to get back there later this week and try out the others.
