What Climber do I need?

Check-out Buckshot Mfg. Equalizer climbing stand. I have one. It's fully welded aluminum, and you can adjust the level of the seat and platform as needed while climbing. The one I have allows me to sit and face the tree, or sit with my back to the tree. Very safe and stable climber. Also very quiet.

Most comfortable is the Ol Man but not the lightest. Once they are in the tree they are stable and I can sit in them all day. man deer shot from the two I have.

If X-Stand put any effort into marketing, I would argue they'd be right there with Summit in the climber discussion. Their "Deluxe" climber model is just 16 pounds, easy, and super comfortable. I've switched to a different mobile hunting method now, but besides the LWHC, that X-Stand was my favorite. They also make some really light hang on's. Very underrated company.

In all honesty with climbers there are 3 categories:

Lone wolf
Summit
Everything else

Lone wolf is more packable and quieter. It’s less comfortable than a summit and seems to fail more frequently than summits.

Summit is the king of comfort. They’re bulky and loud in comparison to lone wolf. I’d venture to say they’re safer, can’t say I recall seeing many summit failure threads, but lone wolf climber failures happen with a decent frequency.

Everything else is heavier, bulkier, more cumbersome to set up.

Brendan is right though, if you can only one treestand, make it a quality lock on and sticks. Tree hunting instead of deer hunting gets old.

If it helps the decision, you can often find Summit climbers on Craigslist for $150 and less, at least in my area. Don't see that with Lone Wolfs. You can take that two ways though, your call. I've had a Viper, LW hand climber, and LW sit and climb. They all work, the Summit is more of a pain to carry, but more comfortable than the LW hand climber, and less "finicky" than the LW sit and climb. Practice is what makes them quiet, I think that part gets way overstated in favor of LW most of the time.

I loved my Loggy Bayou XL Climber. Was perfect for bowhunting in that there was a good seat and no bar in front to impede you bow shots. I think that they went out of business but I still have mine.

If you can find a used Treewalker IMO there is nothing better. Tolerances does tight you don’t need to strap the top and bottom together to carry it. They wedge together. It’s larger and lighter than a summit. Comfortable sling seat and will climb anything with no fear of slippage with their spikes. Rated to 350 pounds and about 18-20 pounds. Unfortunately the owner got cancer and they closed down earlier this year.
