Nikon DSLR. Quality photos are more important to me. I can deal with the weight.
What's the best way you have figured out how to pack it? The wife would kill me if something happened to "her" camera but it sure would be nice to bring it and get some better pictures. Her camera bag is a damn backpack in its self.
I am sick of my IPhone pics... But otherwise it's my canon a100 point and shoot which does not do too bad.

I've been pretty happy with the Panasonic DMC-TS3 I've been using for the last few years. Waterproof, shockproof, Lieca lenses and the best battery life, by far, of any digital camera I've been around.

Comes time to replace it or upgrade, I'll probably just get the latest gen of this camera.

Just got a new Canon T4i that has been pretty fun to play with. Sony HX9v has been a great little camera as well.

Steve,
The t4i is a great little DSLR. I still use my T2i all the time! Its smaller then the 7D so easy to bring along. I think for back country its really hard to find a better small DSLR.

Yep, that is my choice although I can't get it to work with my digiscope setup so may try to combine everything with a Pentax Optio WG-2.

When I'm filming others for my hunting films, I use my Canon 7D and T3i. But what I have found myself doing when hunting alone, I just focus on the hunt and don't distract myself by self-filming. It's just so hard to do well that I just use my iPhone 5 to capture pics and 1080 video. I find the quality for the size of the device is more than satisfactory for my needs.

Because I film other hunters around the country so much, I just feel so blessed when I can hold my own bow or rifle and I just focus on the hunt.

Kudos to those who self film. Man that's tough.

Would you mind sharing what your setup is and how the DMC is not compatible? I am wanting to get setup for digiscoping with my new Razor HD50 and would appreciate any experience or advice.

I used to go Panasonic Lumix and it worked well, but I now carry some extra weight with a Nikon D90. Better pics and better memories that look great on the wall and it doesn't distract from my hunt.

Yeah I've been pretty happy with it so far, Canon has a new DSLR coming out this summer that is even smaller. Might be worth checking into.

Sure. The Panisonic does not work because the lens is in the top corner of the camera. My el cheapo setup need the lens somewhere near the center of the camera.

The other item that makes me lean to the Pentax is the infared remote control. It is pretty difficult to get the photos WAY out there pressing the shutter release. It is an exercise in futility using the self timer on the camera so all the shaking stops and the animal almost a mile away is still right where you want them in the frame.

Proof here by the sheer joy on my face that one of the dozens I tried to time worked!

If you zoom in you can see this photo on the screen of the camera:

Anothe decent shot of a different bull from a LONG way off!

Steve

I did get a chance to look at and use the new Canon SLR. Its called the SL1 and holy crap is it small. Its like an oversized point n shoot. Great camera for backpacking I think. I'd recommended it without hesitation.

Scouting a Sony a57. For hunting the a57 might stay at home because of weight. If so I'll use my phone and spotting scope.
