I am finally at a place that I can buy some four-wheelers (ATV, Quads). I am going to be buying used. I have always been a Honda guy, but I was wondering what the 'slide thinks. I am looking for dependability. That's really my only major concern.

Most of the stuff I have read has always favored Honda and Yamaha for reliability. I have never ridden or been around Yamaha's. I have heard they are generally viewed as more comfortable to ride then Honda's. I just have had family members who have owned Honda's that are 20 years old and they still get you any where you want to go around the mountain.

Very good luck with my two Yamahas and a buddy has ridden his extensively with tracks for over a decade nothing bad to say about Yamahas and the tracks never come off my mine and yet to leave me stranded back in🤙My buddy like canams as they have a lot of after market accessories. if ever looking for tracks go at least a 700.

Honda if you want it for farm use only. Grizzly if you want versatility with trail riding, suspension, and ride quality. Any technical terrain the grizzly is far better and they both are the most reliable.

I voted Honda, but really the answer is anything but a Polaris. My dad’s family has always had nothing but Hondas and we’ve always had great luck. My dad currently has a 2000 Rancher 300 and a 2001 Foreman 400 that he bought from his dad. His dad has owned those, as well as a couple other Honda fourwheelers over the years. He ended up switching momentarily to a Polaris Rzr, but wised up and quickly dumped it after seeing the constant shop bills they tend to rack up. He now has a Honda big red side by side and has had great luck with it. Dad’s brother also owns several Honda 4 wheelers and has great luck. I just got a 1985 Honda Fourtrax TRX250 from my dad, that he got from his uncle, who purchased it new in 1985. It’s been meticulously maintained, and although it’s obviously an older machine, it runs like a top and shifts great. My father in law has a couple of early 2000’s Honda ranchers that he’s had great luck with as well.

Mom’s family had always been big on the Polaris machines. But they’re a constant bag of maintenance and seem to be more akin to a ticking time bomb than anything else. We’ve always been able to easily maintain our Hondas at home, but it seems like my maternal grandpa and uncle are always talking about taking the Polaris machines into the shop to get work done or to get a tune up. Couple that with the higher up front cost and it’s a no brainer to me.

Our Hondas have been as high as 12k feet and much lower as well and run like tops no matter the elevation (all ours are carbureted and not fuel injected). They fire up with the pull/kick starts almost as easy as the electric starts, are easy and cost effective to maintain, and they just flat work. They’re not fast, they’re not flashy, they’re not sexy, but they just work. They’ve hauled out countless animals and have had many trail miles on dirt, mud, snow, sand, rocks, and even asphalt. They run the same at zero degrees as they do at 100, and have never let us down. Call me a fanboy, I’ll never own anything but Honda ATV’s.

I rented a 420 rancher with power steering, automatic, and the suspension was a DREAM.. It was a 2018 and by far the best I have ever riden. Took it on my 3rd season mule deer hunt in colorado last year. Performed flawlessly I'm buying one before this fall.

I keep trying to convince my wife we need to spend a little extra money for a Honda with independent rear suspension, but she is baulking at the extra money. In her mind the soreness from a straight axle is just part of the experience. I don't know whether to be upset that she doesn't want a comfy ride, or happy she doesn't want to spend extra money.

2012 Yamaha Grizzly 700 EFI. I really like it. Doesn’t get a crazy amount of use. Doesn’t even have IMG_6008.jpegIMG_1876.jpegIMG_1623.jpeg

I spent a few years trying to figure out my model for my first ATV and ended up going with the Honda Rubicon 520 with EPS. Ended up choosing it over the Rancher due to the independent rear suspension and the extra power I felt like I’d need at 10kft+ elevation. I’ve really enjoyed it, it eats up all the bumps on the trail and just keeps going. Barely notice anything and it handles great. Hope to have it for a very long time. Just gotta learn how to do the maintenance on my own.
