Having to make a minimum post count to PM someone.
Maybe we could have a new pet peeve thread every year like we do for different species meat poles. LOLIs this Gripe Thread 2.0?
Certainly seems to be a popular "I need 10 posts to access the classifieds" thread. Which is ironic. Is this Gripe Thread 2.0?
At this rate you will be there in 6 more years. EnjoyI’m not much of a fan of the 10 comments / posts to gain more access and private messaging
Well said! I have several good friends that I don’t talk politics or religion. Great people. And I think sometimes we can lose that online because of a person’s beliefs or religion when we don’t even know them or what type of person they are.I really hesitate to call this a pet peeve because in my experience this is one of the best-run forums I'm a member of, and I'm one of those people who hates "logical fallacies" - of which the Nirvana Fallacy is absolutely one of them. To assume we could ever have a "perfect thing for everyone" would probably require "everyone" to be just one person whistling into the void.
That being said (and I'm as guilty of this as some others) when "we" are in the off-season we get a much higher percentage of off topic posts, especially those heavy on religious or political opinions. It's complicated because:
I do see a lot of threads lately where people are more sh1tty to each other than a) serves any actual purpose unless the goal actually was to belittle the other person and b) appears to have no value to the concepts of hunting at all. But hey, again, Nirvana Fallacy - how can you have any Nirvana without some Fallacy?
- It's not actually against the rules (although "we" also do often stray pretty far in those threads from the "When posting, no name-calling, whining, crying, sobbing, bitching, sniveling, sulking, bickering, complaining, or pouting!" rule,
- Many of those discussions often do have some relationship to hunting even if not directly, and
- "We" are all humans, and often times our non-hunting-related beliefs have a lot of crossover to US to our hunting beliefs, even if others might not always see things the same way.
Despite all that I do wish even those of us who (apparently, given the tone of some recent threads) hate each other (without ever even having met one another in most cases) would temper it with the realization that the VERY MOST right-wing and VERY MOST left-wing members of this forum still have a ton more in common than even the most mild-mannered average non-hunter does. We all win or lose many of these fights together, but it seems like we spend most of it bickering here.
I'm no genius and I'm wrong as often as I'm right but I'm pretty good at seeing patterns and I have a box full of 5- and 6-leaf clovers (I stopped gathering the 4's) to back that up. This post will probably fade into the vacuum, but hey, can't know until you try, right?
Lol this is ironic.I understand that I’m a FNG, but IMHO a few things I can’t stand:
1) pet peeves
2) abbreviations
3) misspeling
4) irony
5) lists
YMMV.
