What are the essentials in a good sleep system.

Is there any real downside (other than weight) to getting my first (maybe only?) Pad with an R-value of 6-7?

I don't hunt archery. I put in for CO, ID, MT and WY - no budget in the foreseeable future for Alaska.

I plan to use a quilt because I toss and turn a lot. I figure go pretty low on that as well (15*), and then I can always open it up and wear fewer layers if needed for warmer nights.

I'm slowly building out my kit and working with a budget...Getting a tent, bag and pad are the biggest expenses on the horizon so I'd like to just be 1-and-done for a couple years.

Ear plugs, and something to cover your eyes if the moon is bright and your tent isn’t fairly opaque.
Good pillow- this is one of the things I will splurge on even if I’m counting grams and ounces.
Honorable mention is a closed cell foam pad beneath my inflatable pad. I use a Zlite Sol accordion type. Lessens the likelihood of punctures and will significantly boost the therm rating of a less warm inflatable.

Recommend not taking any drugs like sleeping pills, melatonin, drinking booze etc.
Tends to put me down but the quality of sleep I get is low. That’s just my experience
