Western Washington bivy hunting

HI all. I just moved to the tacoma area of washington from idaho. I love to bivy hunt for elk during archery season. Ill make this short. I want to bivy hunt for elk here in western washington. Does anyone know of any areas I can begin looking that is worth packing into? I wouldnt mind meeting anyone to go scouting this summer. I am healthy fit 30 year old male that has no limits for bagging elk. Anyone game to meet up? Any help at all?

The bugs here are terrible during the summer. After the first big drops in temp in sept they get better but before that using a bivy would be terrible, so maybe look into a one or two man tent. For the weight tarp tent is hard to beat. Also regulations suck in Washington. For elk you have to choose west or east side. I would start with the wilderness areas. Also huntingwashington might gets you some good info

I hunt elk in western Wa with a tarp and bivy setup. In a tent, the bugs that get in don't go anywhere. With a tarp, the bugs can come and go and I don't get caught inside.

When I lived there I just took leave and hunted the east side. More people and roads but there are some great roadless areas that you can pack into.

Welcome to Washington, it's not Idaho, but you're here, so let's get you pointed in the right direction. Pyroducks gave some good info by recommending the wilderness areas, that's what I do as well. Look at the maps, pick some areas that look interesting and start checking them out. You could also look at the wilderness areas on the Olympic Peninsula and focus on trying to shoot a Roosevelt bull, maybe shoot a Blacktail buck while you're at it. I would also recommend that you go over to the Hunting-Washington.com site and introduce yourself there, lots of good people and information to be shared.
