My wife and I are planning two weeks out west next summer.just starting the planning stage.a mix of predetermined places to stay and camping along the way.plan on starting in Colorado, heading north and going through Yellowstone and finishing out in Montana.whats the best time to go,June July,or august?

It depends on what you consider to be good weather for the elevations you want to be in. This year the snows lasted longer and then the rains were pretty common in my area of Southwest Montana and on down to the Yellowstone. The weather will be hotter and drier on the east side of the Divide, enough that visiting the east side can be more enjoyable a month earlier than if you want to visit the west side. I'm on the west side and we still have day time temps of 70 to 80 degrees while Helena (about 30 miles to the east, just on the other side of the Divide from where I live) has already hit the high 90's and is far drier.
