Western/Mid MT Elk Hunt

Hi! I’m a college student at the University— which also unfortunately limits my time to scout before the rifle season during the week with midterms. I’m really trying to get my first elk this fall, and waiting to buy my tag ($500 for a student) until I can find some elk I can get on. I’ve done a ton of escouting and scouting, and i’ve only seen some cows in a permit only area. I’m not looking for anyone’s honey holes at all, just wondering if anyone has any pointers, tips/tricks, or units I should focus more on so I can try to make this happen. Thank you!!
