After putting in a fully pensioned retirement career of time into hunting, I hit an animal I didn't recover.
Super steep angle on an incredible OTC muley. Hit him high, good thump, figured high single lung, had decent blood from both sides with a passthrough. (Left entry, right exit) Weather rolled in quick and got socked in and pulled out. Tracked him for a mile in the morning. Lost blood quick. Never slowed down or bedded, up and over hills, not dragging or favoring any legs. Best guess I sent it through his backstraps or something. Feel terrible about it but its bound to happen so they say. I feel better knowing he was alive at least.

Figured I'd see if anyone knew of anybody who had seen or shot him.
Would love to see a picture of the stud
DM and I can narrow details
Long shot but worth seeing
Happy hunting all

Bummer, the buck I got last year had been shot high and left a gross puss pocket. He didn’t seem any worse for the wear before my bullet did him in. It always surprises me how tough wild animals are.

What was his reaction to the impact?

Didn't see his reaction. Was proned out, shooting steep uphill. Dont get me wrong, I had a good site picture on him when I shot, looked hurt heading over the top. Really expected to find him crumpled up at the top and then it just kept getting foggier by the literal second on his blood trail. Never saw him again.
