Has anyone ever attempted to weld seams on a silnylon of silpoly shelter? I'm curious if it would save weight over stitching. I'm sure it would be more expensive. Thoughts?

"Welding" silnylon is not very practical as the chemicals required are not terribly easy to come by in the research I've done. That said gluing using straight silicone works reasonably well but I probably wouldn't trust my hunt to it.

I have not messed with trying it on all poly but I would imagine similar results.

I've read a good article on it somewhere. Its going to save a tiny amount of weight of the felled seams [extra fabric] but its so small as to be a non factor. I know the Cuben glues well.

I did some gluing of seams prior to sewing while experimenting on a faster/easy way to sew felled seams with glue stick, silicone and the hem tape. None of those would be strong enough to make a glued seam of course.... The heat activated hem tape sure made it easier to sew.
