Welcome Matson's Lab--Get your game lab-aged for free!

I’ve gotten my critters aged with Matsons the last few years but I did shoot a wolf I could pop a tooth out of and send in. I’m guessing real young but dunno if that means sub year old or sub two years old.
Likely/possibly sub 1, wolves born in May are nearly fully grown by the time a lot get harvested in late winter, we report a lot of 0 year old wolves.
Welcome. I've had several animals aged over the years and always eagerly await the results. I wish I could've had the black bear aged that I shot this past fall. I thought the DNR was going to provide me with the results as they took a tooth, but I never heard back.
What state? We’ve only gotten bear teeth from a handful so far. Good chance they haven’t even sent them in yet, or they could be getting processed now. Most agencies will tell you 6-12months from harvest by the time they batch them, send them, we process and age and then they get them back and report the ages back to you.

Damn, at $75 a pop and it taking all of several minutes.... sounds like a side hustle. Too bad it is free in wyoming
Well its $75 for 4 samples so if each takes several minutes the price seems reasonable.

I'm as big into finding way businesses are ripping people off as the next guy but to me I am happy to pay $75 each year to know the ages of the critters myself and family killed.

I wish, if we were getting $75/tooth I'd probably finally break down and buy one of them Sako 90 Peaks I keep e-mailing Jake about I've been eyeing and saving up for 😜.

$75/4 = $18.75 a pop and prices only go down from there unless wanting to spend more money for faster results.

$75 is the minimum charge and some folks are willing to, and do, pay it for one but even sending 2 or 3 it becomes the best value out there and priced that way to incentivize sending more than a single tooth.

If you can do it in "all of several minutes" please stop by the lab anytime and do show me 🤞🤞! I've been doing this over a decade and try to foster an environment of continuous improvement so always open to learning new techniques. We always have backup teeth to discard so happy to provide those to you. The age assignment itself is perhaps what you're referring to and is likely sub 30 seconds for most teeth, but there is just a bit more that goes into getting that tooth section on the slide and ready to read.

It's "free" in all of the other states that are doing tooth collections in the same sense our public lands are free, your tax dollars are either paying the Wyoming Game and Fish lab directly to process the teeth, or in the case of most of the states now those tax dollars are going through the agency and are paying Matson's to process the teeth.
