Howdy Roksliders,
You've probably noticed their banner up the last few weeks. I've been in the hills 40 of the last 60 days, so just getting some time to catch you all up on Rokslide's latest sponsor, Cooper Firearms. If you think you know who they are, read on anyway (if you like really accurate guns you can afford).

Ryan and I began working with a few of their guns in the last month (Ryan more than me). We're both shooting 7mm Rem Mags (best caliber ever ;). His is a Jackson Hunter, Model 52

Ryan took his to the range first day he got it and here is his first group:

As we all know that is a pretty good group for Ryan at 100 yards :) so it's definitely the rifle. He also shot his to 1300 yards with great accuracy but didn't send me that pic cause he doesn't want to make us short rangers feel bad.

I've been guiding and hunting so my gun sat in the basement for two weeks. It's a model 52 Excaliber.

Finally got it out this week and here is my group:

That was with no fiddling around with anything, just threw some handloads together and hit the range.

I had some time this morning before I pull out for a mule deer hunt so I shot it at 500 yards:

Wind flags were flat on that one and got a 1.375" group.

Moved out to 600 and fired two more. Wind was up about 5 mph left to right:

I've shot less than 20 rounds out of this gun including getting it on paper and I'm shooting 1 MOA to 600 yards! I've got to get to the hills so I'll be doing some more testing and publishing on Rokslide and the Rok Blog in the next few months. This is the most accurate gun I've shot out of the box under 9 pounds scoped ever (mine's 8 lb 11 oz with 4.5x14 Leuopold B&C reticle.)

So welcome Cooper Firearms. We're just getting to know them and they are great people based out of Stevensville, Montana, been building high quality rifles for 25 years. If you're an accuracy freak like Ryan and me, you're gonna love these guns. We will also be surveying you all in the next few months on what you think needs to be engineered into the perfect backcountry rifle.

Nice shooting Robby!

I got to take a look at Ryan's Cooper a week ago, and it is definitely an awesome rifle. Very nice workmanship and great balance.

Good morning. The Model 52 does come in all of the magnum calibers as well as the Model 56. The website does not have all of the current information available at this time. We are updating the website as we speak and should be up to date as of the end of this week. I apologize for any confusion that this may have caused. Ryan and Robbie are both shooting the Model 52 in 7mm Mag. This was not a misprint. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Steve

Winter is here.

Thought this would be fitting for the weather that we are having. This is our Model 52 Excalibur with a stainless steel action, fluted barrel, and our muzzle break.

Cooper, love the stainless look.

Hunting Big Sky, that 6.5-284 caliber really tempts me. Let us all know how you like it on your hunt.

Sean Donovan got this elk at 980 yards with a Cooper Model 52 Jackson Hunter 7mm STW. It was 6 degrees below 0 and he scored out at 305. Nice shot Sean. Thanks for sharing.
