I'm in the break in process with this rifle, just wondering if anyone else has this rifle and has a good hand load worked up. I'm going to try 130 grain Nosler BT, 130 gr Accubonds, and 140 grain accubonds. Trying these with IMR 7828, IMR 4350, and Vihtvouri N560. Using 215M federal primers.

Also, I have the Z5 on it and the Leupold STD medium rings. I tried the lows but my bolt caught the focus ring on the scope so I had to do mediums. Been thinking about trying talley lightweight rings or something else if it works, just trying to get the scope lower/closer to the rifle.

Thanks in advance

Rifles are individuals, so what someone else has found with that particular rifle model probably won't help you much.

But cartridges do have similarities. I've never shot a .270 Weatherby, but I have loaded for similar cartridges. I'd say you're on the right track with 7828 and 215M primers. That combo has worked well for me in other high velocity chamberings such as 7STW and .300 WBY. Others have said its good in 7mm Rem Mag as well, which is pretty close to your .270 WBY.

If you can find them, H4831, Ramshot Magnum, Retumbo, and RL22 or RL25 may also be good choices.

I have the same rifle and am in the same boat. I ended up with the Burris lighweight rings in medium or even high that are similar to a picatinney rail. I tried a couple of others in low but none worked. Most Remington 700 LA rings and bases fit if the manufacturer doesn't list Weatherby. Talley was to be my next attempt if the Burris didn't work.

I have not found the magic load yet. I've gotten the best results out of IMR 7828 and 130gr Accubonds so far but I'm not finished. I would try Vihtavouri but can't get it unless I mail order. I tried some older Barnes 130gr TSX's but the gun didn't like them. I also want try the Hornady GMX since I live in Kalifornia. Good luck in your quest.

I don't trust talley rings after issues with several pairs on my 300 wby ULW. I have zero trust in talley products. I went with Near Manufacturing Alpha Mounts and haven't looked back. Highly recommended.

I will be watching this thread for load information. I have the Mark V in .270 as well. I shoot factory loads out to 500 meters with consistent results. I have tall light weights in low profile no issues to date. My scope is a zeiss conquest 4.5-14x44 Not to say I am any expert just my experience. You might try longrange shooting for load info or the weatherby owners group. Great caliber by the way. IMHO.
