This year was my first year hunting with a WMLRF. It was originally purchased and setup for night hunting because ranging at night with binos is impossible while wearing NODs. It was immediately apparent that having a WMLRF with ballistics built in was a great hunting tool. I now have all my hunting rifles setup to use the WMLRF and it really nice to have.
For daytime/general hunting, I observe and identify with my binoculars (which also have ballistics in them). Once I decide to shoot, I get on the animal, press the button on the WMLRF and it spits out the DOPE. I dial and/or hold and shoot. The real advantage is when the animal is moving in an open area and the distance changes greatly. I can stay on the animal and get the corrected range as soon as a shot presents itself.
I think it’s a great tool but it’s not for everyone. I spent a lot of $ to get a really good unit that is not huge in size or heavy in weight. It’s an investment for sure.
This year while deer hunting. He was covering a lot of ground and having the WMLRF made quick work of getting DOPE when I got him stopped.
