Curious how you guys fit your waterproof hardshells. A lot of them these days seem like a trim fit. I know if you're active, you don't need much under them. However, if you want to go stationary for a bit on a windy, rainy day you'd want more room for a puffy too. Too tight and it reduces the effectiveness of the puffy. Just curious if you guys normally go one size up on your hardshell or stick to your normal size?

Normal size.
For one its less bulk in the pack when not worn. I don't find it an issue compressing puffy insulation under a hardshell reducing warmth, it doesn't compress it that much. I find that if I'm stationary in the rain or wind I set up a small UL siltarp to sit under to glass from... so much more comfortable when raining than just sitting out in the rain getting soaked. I usually don't even need my hardshell on under the tarp. I find the only time I have my hardshell on is if I get caught in the rain while moving between hunt areas.

Normal size. But at least for me, normal size is generally loose enough in non-stretch rain gear that theres plenty of room under it for a lighter puffy and other insulating layers. (If I need a heavy puffy, it’ll be frozen, not wet, and that I wear outside other clothing).

Sitka (jetstream) and most other brands normal size. Anything kuiu - size up. For reference, 6’ 190lbs. Wear a L in almost everything, but occasionally an XL

Outdoor research foray, upsized it so I could add bulk underneath. I suspect th little bit extra size won't affect me if I am not adding anything under it
