Water shoe or mesh shoe for rocky shore?

I’m going on a backpacking trip to try to catch sturgeon from the bank in Hells Canyon Idaho this summer. We’ll be camping for a day or two on each of several holes. One guy I’m going with did this last summer for his Chasing the Moby Youtube channel and had a blast.

I’m looking at what to use for a camp shoe/water shoe while at these holes. It’s rocky and rough enough I think I want more than my usual crocs. When we hook a sturgeon we will be in the water with it, so I want something I can dry reasonably well. Should have lots of sun and hot black rocks for drying though. I’ll have hiking boots for travel, just looking for recommendations on something for camp?

Thanks for the help.

Kanes, wear Kayaking, offshore fishing, wading. Dry instantly. Far more secure footing than Crocs and they float. More and more eva foam shoes on the market. Xtratuf sports if you want a deck boot.

Bedrock sandals have become my go to water shoes here in the rocky Ozarks. Bonus points in that I can also hike all day in them if need be.

I second the bedrocks! I have backpacked miles in em with no issues. Toe socks are amazing and the sandals are a real standout winner in wet conditions. I just wish I could figure out how to hunt in em with foot protection!

I dive/rescue swim in these. I have also done some rocky fly fishing in them. Very grippy.

I have a cabin on rocky bottom river in the moutains we spend a lot time wade fishin/yakkin. We all have some flavor Astrals. Rocky bottoms are hard on the bottom of your feet and toes after a few miles in water shoes/sandles. Crocs float, so when they come off they go with current.
I like the TR1 mesh..Good Luck!

Here is another vote for Astrals. They are quite grippy with the exception of in slick mud. I've had a week of bonefishing & a 6 day packraft trip that was focused on fishing and they held up well.

Bedrocks or the like, there are many different choices, are great river wear and I've had a few different ones thru the years. Currently I wear Shamma Trailstar sandals to float, fish, hike in. 🩴

I have a pair of korker wading shoes that I fish with in the summertime. They would probably fit the bill for both the hike in and wading. I use the felt soles for mine but the rubber would probably be better for you.

There tends to be a lot of goatshead in the snake and salmon area so something with a decent sole is good. I spent a whole weekend raft trip trying to dig one out of my heel.
