Water purification, filter or drops?

I currently have a MSR Sweetwater water purification system. Its not too heavy, I think 12 oz, but that could be an easy 12 oz's to shave off if I went drops/coffee filter route. What are you guys using for your drops/tabs for water purification? Do you have any trouble filling from stagnant water with the filter/drops?

I am running a Hiker Pro filter. I have played with some MSR stuff in the past but keep going back to my ole faithful Pro. The water in system allows me to get water out of almost ANYTHING!! I have pulled from a golf ball sized pool an inch deep while my buddies kept hiking lower for a better flow. I know that a filter does cost me some weight and room over tablets or iodine BUT I can pump straight to my hydration bladder without removing my pack and I don't have to worry about chewing my water because of debris.

I'm running the Katadyn Hiker Pro and AquaMira drops.

If I'm heading into an area that offers clean water, I bring the drops, but if I'm heading into the unknown I bring the Pro.

I use chlorine dioxide tablets. I have had to drink out of some yuck spots similar to Davids pic. Couple years ago Pronghorn hunting I ran out of water. The waterhole was about as gross as it gets. Dead birds and all. THe chlorine dioxide tablets kill everything thou!

This is what I take into the backcountry.

Aqua Mira drops for me. I throw some baselayer type material over the hole of my hydration bladder while I fill it

Have you ever had any trouble with the Katadyn filter? I have had two of them now that failed when the little rubber valve on the output valve pushed through and then it doesn't get any suction. Generally I can push the little rubber valve back into place, but then I have to be careful how much pressure I put into the pump. Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I have had basically the same issue twice now.
