What's the latest & greatest water filter everyone is using? I've been using the sawyer squeeze for the last 2 years or so and I am on my 3rd one. Time to move on.

Not so much concerned about weight, more so durability and the ability to filter water quickly.

I use a katadyn vario. It pumps quickly and hasn't given me any trouble. I've had it for about three years now, still going strong.

I use the katadyn hiker pro, pretty easy system, but likely not the latest and greatest

I use the same - I broke the small nipple on the "in" side on a hunt last year. I had the old model which was about 8 years old. They replaced the entire filter body for free. just wanted to share - katadyn stands behind their product.

I was using the Katadyn Pocket, but at 27oz I ditched it for the Hiker Pro. The Hiker Pro direct fills my 3L Military Camelback in under a minute from a clear water source. And at 11oz, weight isn't an issue.

I just moved to this setup its the Gigerigg 100 ounce bladder that you can preasurize with an included hand pump and I use it as my dirty water reservoir. You pressurize the bladder which makes the water go through the line and through my sawyer inline much faster.

Here is where I found this. Super Happy with it so far.

You can also use this with the Sawyer Squeeze. The pressurized bladder is nice. and the Gigerigg is bombproof. They have done some pretty insane stress testing on this bladder. Its also nice cause you can pressurize it and use it to spray yourself down to cool off or shower.

This is much faster without the carbon filter FYI. The Carbon Filter he has on it really slows down the rate through the Sawyer mini. I can filter twice as much water as he has listed as I dont use the carbon filter.

Been using the sawyer for a little over a year now. I have never used the squeeze pouches it came with. Instead I bought a platypus 3 liter bag to use as my dirty water bag and run it inline with the platypus. I really like the fact that I can fill the 3 liter bag filter what I need and then refill to take back to camp and have spare water available when I need it.

Been fighting my Sawyer inline the past couple nights trying to get the flow back. Its a great system when its working but pretty frustrating when it barely drips. Always have the ol' PUR Hiker to fall back on - that thing just wont quit.

I've never owned a filter. I use the chlorine-dioxide tabs. They take four hours so I have to plan ahead but that's not really a bad thing. For MH and coffee I just boil at the source. Clean water is in such abundance in Wa I've just never felt the need for a filter. If I ever hunted out of state Id probably buy one.

Does that not defeat the purpose? Are you getting clean water without the carbon filter?

Depends on your water source. The Carbon Filter isnt necessary for me. The Carbon filter works on Pesticides and such. But for my case in Colorado Rockies we mostly worry about Protozoa like Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia lamblia

SHTF- Do you filter into another bladder or nalgene or simply fill bladder and attach hose on other end of inline filter? I have geiggerig bladder but dont usually run with the air bulb as it gets in the way.

All of the above but mostly into my clean reservoir. I like having 2 3 liter bladders that way if my water source isn't close I can have 6 liters available.
I agree on the pump being in the way I normally keep it stored away till I'm ready to use it.
