How easy/difficult is it to put the water bottle back into the ITS bottle holder? How do you do it?
All it is, is the adjustable loop the bottom, a piece of webbing at the bottom, and a budget cord on the top. It's easy to do

I like to keep mine on the belt, tucked back by the bag. I can reach it easy and there is no swearing when I try to get it out

When I hike in I'll probably have it on the belt. I just put it there to try it. I can reach it there pretty easy but I wouldn't want it back much further.

Larry,
You just pull the tab at the top and lift the bungie off the bottle. Putting it back is easy with one hand. You just put it in the bottom "loop", and pull the bungie down over the bottle top.

I don't use the Nalgene bottles because they weigh twice as much as a Gatorade bottle and do the exact same thing. Plus I like to start my hike with a cold Gatorade anyway.

I used gatorade bottles last year, and was disappointed by how many I had to go through before finding a few that would re-seal and not leak. As i climbed in elevation half of the ones that didn't leak at home leaked on the trail. Since I was putting them in USGI MOLLE canteen pouches I went with Nalgene Oasis bottles and have been happier. The bottles are heavier, but I don't have them leaking every time I take my kit off. One issue may have been how full I filled them, but NONE of the springs or streams that I found while scouting in August were running when I went scouting in Oct, so I packed in all my water. Gatorade bottles are about 51 grams. The nalgenes are 130gm. The USGI Molle pouches are twice as heavy as the ITS ones, but I get more pockets for small things (the small pockets will hold a half dozen 30.06 rounds, or 3 shotgun shells, a compass, purification tabs, or other small things). Since I paid about $7.00 each for the Molle pouches, I may try to cut off some of the extraneous stuff and see how much I can reduce the weight....

That's interesting unm1136. I've never had a single problem with them leaking. I'm sure they don't seal as well as a Nalgene bottle though.

The ITS bottle holder is 2.7 oz and $25.00. I have found the MOLLE canteen pouches for as little as $3.00 each on fleabay, average seems to be $5-7, call them $10.00 each eith shipping. I picked two up locally for $5 each. This afternoon I weighed my intact Molle pouch at 5.75 oz. Then I chopped off the top flap, the Y-strap, and the PALS webbing. I pulled off the lower fastex point. The shock cord is now used to secure the bottle in the pouch. Tac ties are used for attaching it, and are included final weights. It works great with the nalgene, so I went out and bought a gatorade. The pouch fit is really sloppy, so I added a 8 inch loop of shock cord to hold the gatorade bottle in place. Weight came down to 4 oz without the extra shock cord and cord lock, and 4.25 oz with. Total 1.5 oz in weight savings.

I am not too impressed. I like the flap; one of my canteen pouches holds a medium KU pullout with my butchering kit, and fire kit, with enough room to add a couple of survival necessities. I have so say that the weight savings is not worth the loss of utility. My newly butchered pouch will ride on my EMR belt with my nalgene in it for training hikes. My multicam MOLLE pouches will be un-modded come hunting season, and I will lose more weight by using gatorade bottles than by trimming the pouch. I need to start looking earlier and save them for the trip.

I read on other forums that cross threading a lid will damage the threads enough to get leakage. My kids have water bottle fetishes. They each have their own, but lose them in the house and car, and wind up using old gatorade bottles, old water bottles, ect as much as they use their bottles. That may have been the source of my problem...

I tried something a little differant year before last....an UL water bottle assessory for bikes.
It was a perfect fit for my BOTA filter bottle. Got it at REI for <$10

Wasn't sure how it'd work out, as I was afraid the bottle would pop out and I'd loose it while hunting, but so far it hasn't been an issue.
As for mounting it, I just screwed it to a strip of plastic and slipped a waist belt strap through it.
Retention is awesome, the bottle snaps in and it's real secure.
Anyway just thought I'd toss out another solution to the brainstorm session.
