Hey guys, My dad drew the one rifle tag for this unit for this year!

I AM LOOKING FOR YOUR HONEY HOLES OR ADVICE

He is 62 but in pretty solid shape, and is proficient to shooting out to 500 yards
What expectations for the hunt should be made for trophy quality?
Is a 300" bull realistic?
How far deep do you need to get in to typically see elk?
My dad plans on scouting the unit often this summer. He lives in Walla Walla, so it's a bit of a drive to get out there.
Any pointers are greatly appreciated as I don't see much information about this unit available on any other hunting forums. Cheers!

No help on your tag, besides 300” is definitely realistic and would be on the lower end of my expectations for that tag. Unit got edited because not allowed to talk specific units here thankfully, I’d put up a post on hunt-Washington and will get more info. If it’s your first post over there be prepared to take a little ribbing asking for info, most of it is good fun from the guys.

I see that now. Considering my other posts have been edited as well! Sorry moderators! 😅
I listed the name of the unit because the draw odds for this tag are about on par with me drawing my Henries bison tag, less than 1%. Rules are rules though!

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll post on HuntWashington to see what those gentlemen have to say!

I wouldn’t worry about it, such a long shot draw. My uncle had it probably 25-30 years ago and shot a great bull I remember. A pallet of Busch lattes and a couple cases of Pendleton might come in handy for access purposes.
