Boy this is real convenient that this comes out right as they are trying to de-list the grizzly.
Happened in November and the Montana Fish and Wildlife kept a lid on this till now?
A lot of papers are picking this story up and they anti crowd is probably gonna be out in full force on this.

Time to band together folks. The ranchers and most of all the game need these bears to be managed.
If you haven't already go make a comment to de-list. The anti-hunter crowd WILL find their way there.
It only takes a minute. The comment section ends in 8 days. 5/10/16

The way I read it the bear was starving to death. Left the park, probably got aggressive with a hunter and he or she ended it. Looks like they did him a favor, starving or freezing to death would be slow and painful but I guess in the eyes of a granola munching tree hugger that would be better than a quick and less painful end.

THanks for posting the link. I commented in support of delisting. The comment link is in the upper right side of page, took a minute to find it.

And yes, Scarface is the perfect story for the anti's to latch onto now. If it would happened two years ago, these people wouldn't be promoting the story.

Very interesting that the USFWS is just now leaking it out.

Thanks for the link. I also commented in favor of the delisting. Let's celebrate their successful recovery and implement some sound management practices going forward, including hunting.

According to Yellowstone National Park, over the last 40 years the grizzly population there has grown from 136 to a stable population of somewhere between 674 and 839 The recovery population goal was 500 and was actually met in 1999.

Happy to hear.

Now, how about we de-list humans? If it's important to manage wildlife like this, and I think it is, shouldn't we also be controlling our own proliferation?

Thanks Robby, I missed the section, glad you mentioned it.

I also agree... I'm not sure why this story was not sprung till now? Or was it known and just not made a big deal? If he was collared they new immediately when he died and where.. So waiting 6 months to announce it without any details seems suspect at best..

Already happening, birth control and abortion. What else do you suggest?

Commented. Think about how comments read to a non-hunting public - i.e. animals still thrive under state management. The data support delisting, and I think it's crucial to emphasize that. Just my $.02

Why are you even on a hunting forum in the first place? Just to push anti agenda? Too bad there isn't a troll season.

Just to be clear - I am pro-hunting. I guess my message was a bit harsh, I apologize. My point is everytime a story like this comes up, it seems as though everyone scrambles to pick a side and make the other side an enemy - meanwhile the real underlying issues seem to be ignored. I don't think I can say what we should be doing but it is clear that we are impacting our environment, including wildlife and wildlife habitat, in ways that we have never ever before. We should be looking at all the data and making that public so that we can engage in meaningful discussions rather than getting riled up about these stories that pop up every now and then.

Much better approach to the topic, and I can't disagree with that

A 25 year old bear out and about in November is dying. The bear lovers want the bear to die a slow, horrible death of starvation and possible hypothermia. Sure, its "natural" death, just like being eaten alive is a natural death. Do these animal lovers ever take a pet to the vet to be put down? if they do, then they are hypocrites for being mad over this bear's demise. A human with a gun did the right thing to end his suffering.

I definitely agree, I mean we have have so much space in this country.
