What are your methods and detergents for washing merino? I'd like to keep my new Kuiu Ultra merino base layers nice since they're pricey!

Thank you,

Drew

My 145 Top has been through 5 or 6 sweaty scout/beasting sessions in the last couple weeks with no wash. No smell still amazingly but I feel like I should get a wash in before the season opens. :)

throw mine in with the rest of my stuff, darn tough socks too, good old tide liquid..probably should do a separate wash on gentle with a lighter dose of detergent...but never put in the dryer. hang it up for couple hours and its dry to wear.

I just wash them with non scented detergent then dry on low. Both my Kryptek and Kuiu have held up fine doing so.

Thanks for the replies guys. I wash all my Rivers West camo in Dead Down Wind detergent. I'll have to see if they make a wool safe detergent. I'm a fan of scent free detergent for my camo. :)

I use Nikwax Wool wash , always works well for me .
^^
Been doing this for a few years now. I always use the extra rinse cycle and line dry. I run a mixture of First Lite, KUIU, and Sitka merino + some First Lite and Darn Tough socks. No fabric softners either. Works well for me. You just need a tiny dab of the Niwax though. It's pretty concentrated. If you use to much it leaves a residue that smells as you use the merino. Less soap, extra rinse, line dry...

I asked two different company that make/sale merino, both said tide free. Hang dry if you can.

Tide Free- been using it for years on merino. Throw dirty stuff in wash, no delicate anything, take out clean... repeat as necessary. :)

I just like to have a separate soap and process to use for all my outdoor gear. I'm the only one that washes the stuff and perhaps I over think it, but it works. ;)

Whatever hi efficiency liquid detergent Costco carries. I hang dry all merino that specifies it on the label, but have never had an issue drying those the manufacturer said was ok. We do routinely wear merino base layers, underwear and socks for 7+ day trips without washing and have never had trouble with them smelling at all, but usually wash them between trips.

Put mine in a garment bag as I still have an oldschool agitator type. free and clear packs hang to dry. Been looking at the Sawyer bug treatment stuff too.

I've used Sport Wash on all my hunting clothes for probably the past 10 years, including merino. I usually put it all in the dryer as well. Haven't had any issues yet.

thank you for all the suggestions everyone. My Kuiu 145 zip off bottoms just arrived today. I'm excited to test them out under the attack pants.
