I would like to have a sharpener like this set up when we are processing game for quick touch-up. Anyone have experience with them? Thanks

What kind of knives do you use for processing? Are you using relatively inexpensive knives like the Victorinox knives or are you using quality steel?

If you use cheaper knives for processing you can spend WAY less on a pull-through sharpener that will get you where you need to be to finish the job. I wouldn't spend 100-500 bucks on something like this for that job. I think I spent like 20 bucks on mine and I use it for my cheap processing knives.

If you have expensive knives you should invest in a quality sharpening system that doesn't grind down your quality steel like the FDICK one does, and has higher precision than the Warthog. I spent a ridiculous amount on the TSPROF knife sharpener which is made by this machinist out of Russia, but I've seen a bunch of copy-cat systems that cost much less than that one that look like they work basically the same way.

Once you have a good edge on quality steel you shouldn't need to sharpen more than once or twice a year if you are religious about honing on a sharpening steel (use multiple times during use to keep the edge sharp) and hitting it with a leather strop after each use.

yes, thanks. I have basic Mora and Vic knives but also some SHUN and other higher end ones. Have been using the cardboard wheel on a bench grinder but they get hot fast and I may move away from that to preserve heat treat.
