I’ve got plenty of rifles. Most of them walnut and steel. My 2 main hunting rifles are

1. Full out custom 6.5 CM on Deviant action, proof Carbon Barrel and specd our Manners carbon stock with aluminum bedding block and adjustable cheek rest. With the Atlas bipod it tips the scales at 11.5# with ammo and wears a Leupold vx6 3-18.

2.Trued Remington LA with Kreiger 26” Sendero contour (or whatever they call it) with fluting and carbon stock that ironically is also in the 11# area with same bipod and scope.

I’d like to buy a semi production rifle such as the Christensen or other and set it up to have a weight of around 8 pounds. I’m open to caliber but have been looking at 7mm-08 or 308 as an all around caliber for hunting on the east coast with planned trips in the future out west as time and money allow. I can use others for open land hunting. This is my packable, hiking in, 500 yard likely furthest shot rifle. I reload my own ammo so factory selection not a concern.

I was thinking Christensen Titanium in 308 and maybe a Vx5 or VX6 in 2-10 or 2-12.

thoughts? Other rifles I’m missing? Aesthetics are important and I don’t like flimsy stocks.

Ive looked at some of the fly weight Kimbers such as the Adirondack, but felt it was too tiny and stock a bit flimsy towards the front.

I don’t think you could go wrong with the CA Ti. I personally would prefer the 7-08 but that’s just a preference.
With the Ridgeline Ti and the VX5 you’d be under 8# for sure. Maybe even 7#.

Tikka T3x, Barrett Fieldcraft, or Kimber Montana. Montana has the best factory stock in the game. 6CM, 6.5CM, 7mm-08, or 308. Stocks are plenty stiff. Quality projectiles abound; especially for a handloader. Research impact velocities. Confirm dope. Mount a quality, reliable optic and confirm as much.

I’ve never met a lightweight magnified optic worth its weight in beer; save perhaps the SWFA 1-4. Regardless, if you actually think about what an optic does, and what a failure of an optic means to your hunt, you’ll understand why looking to your optic choice as a place to shave a few ounces is quite possibly the most ignorant choice you could make when it comes to your equipment. Think about it.

Havak has all the right specs but not a fan of the spiral fluting on a hunting rifle.

They have other fluting options. May be able to get it non-fluted.
They also offer Carbon bbl. at an up charge.
Call em. 👍

Lots of good off the shelf options or slightly modified options depending on your budget. A Tikka Superlite dropped into a McMillan Hunters Edge stock would be a great set-up and easily get you to your desired weight. I went that route on one of my 7MM-08's.

Or if you have time then why not build exactly what you want? Have a new 7MM-08 arriving today that is under 8 lbs with a 20 oz scope on it.

CA Mesa and ridgeline stocks are quite flimsy, so if that is important I’d rule them out unless you plan to replace the stock.

I like the kimbers, I’ve had great experiences with them. I also like that I can put a “heavier” scope on them and still be below 6.5lbs.
