Looking for a new or gently used lightweight 3-18x (only) scope. A few would be VX6 or Swaro. Thanks!

Not trying to be a jerk, but I can tell you are new to Rokslide not just because the FNG moniker next your member name, but also because of what you are asking for. Do some research on this forum and you’ll see real reviews on Leupolds. I once had a VX6 3-18 and thought it was the last scope I’d ever need. After a couple seasons of use, I sold it, and the other Leupold’s I had.

Also, if you are looking to buy optics, there’s a Clasifieds section specially for optics. Be careful with WTB ads though as there are scammers here just like on so many other sites.

Can I ask why your recommendation of research? You don’t believe the VX6 is a good scope? Reviews seem positive.

Read the reviews on RokSlide, not the ones by someone getting sponsored by the company selling the scope.

On the web version, it is easy to search for the brand or model number and posts by Form.

Ive found scopes with a really wide magnification range also have a wide range in optical quality from low to high mag. Of course im sure someone will tell me i just needed to spend another 3k to get one that worked.

Actually some of the only scopes that have passed the drop tests and have a nice set of features for hunters are generally on the less expensive side of the market.

I guess it depends what "lightweight" means to you. Two 3-18's that come to mind are a Trijicon Tenmile 3-18 or preordering a Nightforce NX6 3-18 (I have one on preorder).

Ive found that with my own use.

I have a vortex diamondback thats been on everything from ar 15s to 300 win mag, and been on rifles slung on my back all over the rocky mountains on a dirt bike. I just shot a perfect 8 moa square this afternoon and it returned to zero with no trouble.

Not sure what the hate is on leupolds, but I absolutely love my VX-6HDs. Never have I had one issue with them.

Don’t know seller.

IMO the VX6 is a fine scope. I’ve had one for nearly a decade without issue. It’s been on a good amount of hunts. I don’t recall dropping it much.

This site in general is pretty “harsh” on scopes based on a drop testing methodology that is done. Very few scopes pass but they are also fairly aggressive tests (36” drops at the high end). No modern leupold has passed.

If you want a scope that is nearly indestructible and passes these tests it’s a great piece of info.

If you feel you are careful and don’t mind dropping a gun and wondering if the zero wandered….then the “mainstream” high selling scopes like Leupold and Vortex may work for you…..but they won’t get much love here.

I own Leupold, vortex, NF, Trijicon and haven’t had an issue with any of them yet with a good amount of use. Based on the tests I do have more confidence in the later two brands.

I’m glad you haven’t had an issue with yours. But I do have to say, that’s definitely not one of the scopes I was referring to. In general the Vortex optics have not fared well.

It’s because if you take a tumble hunting, or it falls after being leaned against a tree it might lose zero. Might not be this time but you’ll have to wonder.

I understand they dont do well in those tests. They have done well for me though.

A few years ago i was climbing a rock elk hunting and slipped on the snow. I fell about 7 feet off of it and banged my rifle really hard. Had a 1/4" deep impact crater in the walnut stock right below the scope, the scope got hit hard enough to flat spot the edge of the top turret cap and put a gouge but not a dent in the tube metal.

I checked it was still zeroed and it was. Checked it at the 600 yard range next 2 summers in a row. Always tracked right and shot well. That was a 6.5-20x44 vortex viper.

I know some scopes have issues. But i think a lot is user error. Such as canting a rifle, or not noticing 5 mph changes in wind at 200 yards and then believing the rifle did not track right. It would take a pretty expensive set up of someone testing scopes by shooting to convince me turrets did not track correctly.

I have never seen anyone recommend a spending 3k on a scope. Have you?

Only on here. I had a guy today calling me names and telling me to leave rokslide because i told someone a $450 glenfield model A is enough rifle for any mountain hunting.

Had a guy yesterday blow his lid because i said my pse brute that had split pse parallel limbs in 2009 still kills deer fine.

Only on here.

Can you post a link to that?
