Let’s hear some of your backcountry wall tent/stove hacks! I’ve always done a tarp and old rug on one side and dirt on the other. That way you have a place to wear muddy boots and a warm place for bare feet to walk. @cnelk mentioned a dura-log burns almost all night in his stove. What else you guys got?!

Also - I bring a little roll of foil hvac tape for the stove pipe connections. Helps with any puffs of backdraft smoke.

To clarify - When I’ve used a DuraFlame log in my wood stove, I fill the stove with wood and put a DuraFlame log on top.

By the time I get up in the morning, there is enough embers to add some small stuff and get it going.

In 2017, hunting Wyoming, I had my stove going for 5 days straight

Note - the DuraFlame logs do create some creosote so be aware of your stove pipe buildup

We left out a pan of used oil this year on accident and caught 3 mice. So we took the mice out and left it out the whole time. Each morning we had a new catch. Caught over 10 the week we were there. They can’t swim in oil

I let my wood stove run out at night so, I put my water in a cooler so it doesn't freeze at night or during the day. I also find rocks about the size of my boots, put them on the stove to warm then toss them my boots to dry out.

Throw two north Idaho energy logs on top of a bed of really good coals before going to bed. Will produce heat all night and have enough red coals in the morning to ignite split wood.

We are going to bring some red and white oak rounds to throw in before we go to bed, they should burn nice and slow and give us some coals to start a fire in the morning....

if it’s going to be brutal cold, I’ll bring a couple bags of chunk coal to throw in at night. I’m a self proclaimed wood whore, so firewood isn’t an issue but not all wood will hold a fire all night. As mentioned above, mouse traps. A 10 foot porch extension is an absolute must have.
