Walden, CO

The Rainbow Lakes Trail #1130 is a nice hike. Roundtrip to the lake is a little over 8 miles so it might be too much for the kids to hike all the way. The trailhead is located at the end of County Road 22A.

It's North Park! I grew up not far from it and spent a couple of summers haying on the Kohlman Ranch located next to Hebron in North Park. Never heard it called anything else.
Yeah I have never heard it be called anything different.

Great fishing. Plenty of moose. Check out the coffee shop on the north side of town, and their breakfast burritos are good, too. In Steamboat, try Winona's for breakfast or brunch, one of the best places in the state.

For hiking, there are a lot of pretty easy spots to hike, I can think of several trails. Get a national forest map for the area and go play.

Aside from fishing west of town (its good) It's kind of boring up that way but the views are nice. As mentioned, Saratoga has some hot springs, they used to be in pretty poor shape, I'm not sure what they look like these days. The fires have torched alot of the surrounding areas so there is that to deal with. It seems like the thing to do up that way these days, especially on the WY side is to drive side by sides around all day if you're into that.

I hope you drew a good tag!

PS........ Avoid the stockman bar and grill at all costs. What a rip off that place is.

The Hobo pools in Saratoga have been redone and are fine, just don't take your kids after dark. They may see more than you want them to, lol.

I'd also drive up to the top of the Snowy range and do some hikes, maybe some fishing.

Be careful of thunderstorms when hiking, we're getting into that afternoon thunderstorm time of the year and you don't want to be caught above timberline when they roll in.

Is the Mangy Moose still good in Walden?

@ez_willie Bring your own groceries. Food options are pretty limited. The bowling alley is a decent spot for lunch/sandwiches though.

I also second the guys at North Park Meats.

The Mangy moose just reopened and has a new menu. Kinda expensive

Few photos of some of the recommendations I received….rainbow lakes trail, Arapaho wildlife refuge, state forest state park; fish creek falls, hot springs in steamboat, food from Winona’s.
