Looks like we are off to the start of another really bad fire season here in Wa
I feel really bad for the folks in Pateros. Pateros being one of my favorite places in the state and where I'd love to retire to one day. About 100 homes destroyed and it sounds like the fire is moving up some of my best bird hunting area's. This fire must have been very hot with lots of wind as there really is not that much fuel in the area.
Unlike the Leavenworth fire which has tons of fuel. On the drive home Wednesday I had a clear view of the Cascades from Mt Baker to the north down to Mt Rainier to the south. About half way between them I watched a storm cloud go from ~10,000 feet to over 30,000 feet in just a few minutes. It was a sight I haven't seen since Mt St Halens erupted 30 years ago. It was a pretty awesome display of natures power as you could tell it was smoke and a fire that fueled it. Today you can't hardly see any of the mountains with all the smoke.
So far no one has been hurt and lets hope that continues!
For all you firefighters out there God speed and stay safe!!!
And lets hope for an early snowfall this year as that is what will be putting out these fires in the end!
