Vortex Razor UHD 8X32 and 10X32 Mid Size Binoculars

Do you think the compactness of the 32s offsets the brightness of the 42s?
I don’t have these exact binos but I do run 8x32’s. Last weekend I could see some animals in the road in front of me that appeared to be deer. It was almost dark, well past shooting light. I grabbed my 8x32’s and even through the windshield I could make out 7 does and one small buck in the road a couple hundred yards away. Up until then I wasn’t sure if I made the right choice going with 32’s vs 42’s but the 8x32’s will take me well past shooting light which is plenty good for me.

Right on, that is great to hear.

For me it does. The 8x42 UHD is a big, long binocular for the class, so while the 8x32 UHD isn’t particularly small for an 8x32, it does save quite a bit on the 8x42 UHD.

The other advantage of the 8x32 is the massive FOV which is 52’ wider at 1000 yards than the 8x42.

These mid-size UHDs from Vortex are very good.

I’m considering going from conquest HD 10x42 to the UHD 10x32. Should I have any concerns about low light performance of the UHD when compared to the conquest?

You can’t beat physics, so the reduced exit pupil will play some role.

However, optical corrections are better with the UHD, so that may mitigate any brightness issue.

So I will admit I don’t have a ton of experience with binoculars with the only pair I’ve ever used being the Viper HD 10x50. Being an eastern hunter here in PA where we aren’t typically looking more than a few hundred yards with most hunting applications being 150 yards and in I am curious how much of an advantage the improved glass would be and if it would be worth stepping down to 8x with the UHD glass vs the Viper HD.

Has anybody upgraded or compared those two directly? Will the better glass make up for the significantly smaller objective?

UHD is significantly better than the Viper, a 10x50 has a much larger exit pupil vs 8x32 5mm vs 4mm. I use 8x32 alpha glass and can see animals clearly well past shooting light and would personally prefer the 8x32 with the much larger FOV over the 10x50 as I think a person would enjoy glassing way more and turn up more animals due to the increase FOV.

If first and last light glassing and identifying is your highest priority then the 10x50's will most likey perform better for those couple of minutes a day and resolution doesn't matter in the dark. I switched from a Razor 10x42 to a NL8x32 and am very happy with the decision.

That’s where I was on the fence, but without anything to compare it to I’ve been hesitant to pick them up. However I ended up pulling the trigger on the 8x32s tonight, with deals, discounts and a bunch of Cabela’s points they are going to run me about $100 or so. Figure I’ve got 60 days to see if I like them and if they don’t wow me over my Viper 10x50’s I’ll send them back.

So what, it's his money. The UHD's are superb glass.
So you think he should sell them to the guy for $200? Not sure what you're getting at, I was just telling the guy who commented about giving him $200 for them that the OP had way more invested than $100.

I agree that UHD's are great glass, I never said anything negative about them or how much the guy paid for them.

My comment was geared toward your "he's probably spend $90k at Cabelas" comment. I could give a ratsasss what he sells them for, if he sells them, if he keeps them, whatever.

I was trying to explain to the other guy that you have to spend money to get Cabelas points and that he didn't just pay $100 on them like they were on sale. Sorry to offend you.

Didn't offend me I assure you, but what he spent at Cabelas is his business was my point. He could've been given gift certs for all anyone knows. I've never seen a board where there are so many people worried and get worked up over what someone else is doing.

He probably spent $90,000 on a Cabelas credit card to get that many points. They only give points at 1-2% of the purchase depending on where the card was used.
Nah it wasn’t anywhere near that much, you just have to play the deals. For example yesterday they did 10% off for card members plus 15% off on all vortex stuff so you’re pretty much 25% off there.

The majority of the points I got on special Cabela’s deals over several years and typically around Black Friday they will have sales on stuff in addition to points bonuses. With 10% off discounts plus 10% back in points bonuses and an additional 10% back through Active Junky you can definitely stretch your dollars if you time it right.
